Help and user guide
How to use AppHub and install our apps on your phone, tablet or TV.
What AppHub is
AppHub is our own app store at apps.ngz.ca, where you download our apps for free. Every app works on Android phones and tablets, and most also run on Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV.
You don't need an account to download. Signing in is optional and keeps your app list and wishlist on all your devices. You can sign in with your email and a password, or with Google.
Our apps
The store has two apps today, all free with no ads. The Games tab will fill up as games are released.
| App | What it does | Works on | Version |
|---|---|---|---|
| NextGen Cable | Free live TV channels sorted by country, starting with Pakistani, Indian and Canadian channels. Has search, favourites, picture-in-picture, and can play your own M3U playlist. Also on the web at tv.ngz.ca. | Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV (phone version coming) | 1.8.36 |
| Live Cam | Specially designed for Wyze cameras: sign in with your Wyze username and password to watch them live. Also shows other CCTV and IP cameras in one grid. Add cameras by brand and IP address (Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Tapo, ONVIF and more) or paste an RTSP address. Logins stay on your device. | Android phones and tablets, Google TV | 0.3.8 |
Using the site
Open apps.ngz.ca in any browser on your phone, tablet or computer.
- Browse: The Apps, Games and TV tabs at the top split the store. Under them, For you shows featured apps, Top charts ranks them, and Categories groups them by type.
- Search: Type an app name in the search box at the top.
- App page: Tap any app to see its pictures, description, version, what's new, and the devices it works on.
- Install: Tap the blue Install button on the app page to download the app file. The next two sections show how to install it.
- Share: Tap Share on an app page to copy its link and send it to someone.
Your account
- Tap the round avatar at the top right.
- New here? Tap Sign in with email, then Create account. Type your name, your email and a password of at least 6 characters, then tap Create account.
- Already use the NextGen Cable app? Tap Sign in with email and use the same email and password. It is the same account, and a new account made here also works in NextGen Cable.
- Prefer Google? Tap Sign in with Google and choose your Google account instead.
- My apps & updates lists every app you've installed from the store. It shows Update when a newer version is out.
- Wishlist keeps apps you want to try later. Tap Add to wishlist on any app page to add one.
- Sign in with the same account on another phone or computer and your lists appear there too.
- Forgot your password? Tap Sign in with email, then Forgot password?, type your email and tap Send link. Open the email and choose a new password.
- Change your password: While signed in with email, tap the avatar, then Change password. The new password works in NextGen Cable too.
Without signing in, your lists are saved only on that device.
Install on an Android phone or tablet
Easiest: install the AppHub app once, then install and update every app from it. Step-by-step guide: phone install guide (PDF).
Our apps come straight from AppHub rather than Google Play, so Android asks you to allow the install once.
- On the phone, open apps.ngz.ca in Chrome and tap the app you want.
- Tap Install. The app file (an .apk) downloads. If Chrome warns that the file may be harmful, tap Download anyway.
- When the download finishes, tap Open in the notification or find the file in Downloads.
- The first time, Android says installs from this source aren't allowed. Tap Settings, switch on Allow from this source, then go back.
- Tap Install. If Google Play Protect asks you to scan the app, you can tap Install without scanning or let it scan first.
- Tap Open to start the app. It also appears on your home screen and in the app drawer.
The menus differ slightly between phone brands. On Samsung, step 4 is called Install unknown apps.
Install on a TV
Easiest: in Downloader type tv.ngz.ca/bazaar to get the AppHub app, then install and update every app from it with the remote. Step-by-step guide: TV install guide (PDF).
On Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV, the easiest way is the free Downloader app (by AFTVnews). You set it up once, then use it for every app.
1. Get Downloader
- Fire TV: Search for Downloader on the home screen and install it.
- Android TV or Google TV: Open the Google Play Store on the TV, search for Downloader, and install it.
2. Allow Downloader to install apps
- Fire TV: Go to Settings, then My Fire TV, then Developer options, then Install unknown apps, and switch Downloader on. If you don't see Developer options, open My Fire TV, then About, and press OK on the device name 7 times.
- Google TV: Go to Settings, then System, then About, and press OK on Android TV OS build 7 times. Then go to Settings, then Apps, then Security & restrictions, then Unknown sources, and switch Downloader on.
- Android TV: Go to Settings, then Device Preferences, then Security & restrictions, then Unknown sources, and switch Downloader on.
3. Install the app
- Open Downloader and type
apps.ngz.cain the address box, then press Go. - The store opens inside Downloader. Pick the app and press Install.
- When the download finishes, press Install, then Open.
- You can delete the downloaded file when Downloader offers to, which saves space on the TV.
The app then appears in your TV's app list. On Google TV, it may be under Apps, then Your apps.
Updates and help
NextGen Cable and Live Cam update themselves: when a new version is out, the app offers it and you tap Update. You can also open My apps & updates on the store. When an app shows Update, tap it and install the new file over the old one. Your channels and settings are kept.
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "App not installed" | Uninstall the old copy first, then install again. This can happen when the old copy came from somewhere else. |
| Install button does nothing on a TV | Check that Downloader is switched on under Unknown sources (see Install on a TV). |
| Play Protect blocks the app | Tap More details, then Install anyway. Our apps are not on Google Play, so Play Protect doesn't recognize them. |
| A channel won't play in NextGen Cable | Channels are public streams, and some go offline. Try another channel or come back later. |
| A camera won't connect in Live Cam | Make sure the phone or TV is on the same Wi-Fi as the camera, and check the IP address, username and password. |
| "The email or password is wrong" | Check for typing mistakes, or tap Forgot password? to set a new one. If you signed up with Google, use Sign in with Google instead. |
| Sign-in popup doesn't open | Allow popups for apps.ngz.ca in your browser, then try again. |
| Old logo or old page shows | Refresh the page. On a computer, press Ctrl+F5. |
